“Australian owned and made, and gorgeously on-trend” that is what Perth Style Co. Founder Sarah James had to say about the most recent range on offer at Jardan.

We were lucky enough to have been invited to a Perth Style Co. X Jardan event, where they discussed the current interior styling trends in the market, in particular for styling your home for sale. Perth Style Co., are specialists in staging homes for sale, to reduce days on market and get the best market price when it comes to selling. They focus on “taking a shell and making a home. Building a sanctuary, somewhere we love to be”. Sarah focuses on two key factors when crafting a zone, ‘space therapy’ and ‘reoccurring factors’. Here are our key takeaways for the very on-trend night.

Space therapy is “creating something within an interior that makes us as humans feel a certain way”.

Have you ever asked yourself why you feel a certain way in a certain space? These feelings are being triggered within us at our most cellular level. Our bodies respond to light, plants and water, along with particular colours. Such as cooler tones in the home, like green, blue, and pastel pink.

You want to be building an oasis. Another way to create a clean and crisp feel in a home is through reflections. This makes the space not only feel brighter but also bigger. One of the most primal ways we can build an oasis is through including natural elements. Bringing in materials such as marble, timber, limestone, and slate. Since we see these items in everyday life, and specifically outside when we then see them inside we associate them with the natural world. This makes us feel warm and safe, as opposed to if a room was all white, with man-made materials, which often feels sterile and cold. Brining the ‘outside in’ is no new news, but there is a reason that we continue to incorporate these moody tones that reflect an outside element in our homes. We once again, go back to our cellular level, at our most primal, where deep down, we feel the most content and calm.

Now onto reoccurring factors, by including repetition, we are made to feel safe and calm. It is about keeping consistent with the piece and styles throughout a home. Pieces that share the same style, such as choosing round or square shapes. This applies to the shape of your coffee table, the legs on the dining table, the handle on your doors and the tapware in your sinks. It is about creating an aesthetic of your home, not just per room.

This also applies to colours of furniture or pieces. It is important to choose your base colour palette against a rule of three. Again, we apply this across the home as a whole, not just on individual rooms. Choose your base colours to be simple and easily applied to all other rooms example, white, black and timber. You then shake up each individual room to provide an ‘accent’ colour as is how you allow personality shine through in certain areas.

Though we were promised two main sharing points of the night, we man-made to a third titbit of ‘Perth Style Co. style’. Sarah explained breaking down a room “choose larger pieces that are timeliness, and pair with the current flair through your décor”. This is the key to keeping your home fresh with minimal investment.

She went on to say “A sofa is a very personal choice and a large investment. Consider fabrics that will last a long time and grow with your family and lifestyle. This is a piece that is worth a greater investment”. Along with saying that dining tables also deserve recognition of being a piece worthy of investment. You can rest assured that this is an item you can have forever. She explained you can switch up the style and feel of the table if you move or feel it is dated through the chairs and table dressings. Changing minimal items throughout style seasons keeps your home looking modern.

So what is on-trend right now? Her biggest tips were; concrete, brass, black wire, black, terracotta, sage green, navy and lots of linen.
